Right on the Grand Canal, this building was built in the typical Venetian Gothic style, blending architectural elements from the east and the west. Its internal courtyard is particularly interesting, characterised by loggia and mosaics as well as a collection of sculptures and paintings.
This is a must-see if this is your first visit to Venice.
Just like the phoenix that the theatre is named after, it has risen from the ashes many times. It was partially destroyed by fire in 1836 and was completely burnt to the ground in 1996. Strengthened by its name, it was reopened in 2003 and its regeneration was celebrated with a whole week of musical events and concerts.
A short distance from St Mark’s Square, this theatre is not to be missed for any opera fan or lover of Italian history, as it was just in this place that King Victor Emmanuel III met his future queen.
Located in the Castello district, the Arsenale was the beating heart of the Venetian naval industry in the 12th century. Divided into various areas, the northern zone offers a pleasant walk with a view, open every day from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 3 pm, whereas other zones are only open to visit on specific occasions.
Famous for hosting Venice’s Biennale, the voco® Venice Mestre team recommend visiting Via Garibaldi in the same district. It is well-known for its artisan workshops and studios where you can admire typical Venetian masks and maybe even buy one.
