If you’re planning to visit Treviso, you definitely need to spend some time in the civic museums. Spread over three locations, they are all within the city walls.
Just like Treviso, Padua also has exceptional civic museums but since 1985 they are now all housed within the cloisters of the former convent for hermit friars. This is why they are collectively known as the Civic Museums of the Hermits.
Vicenza is home to the Civic Museum inside the Palazzo Chiericato. Here you’ll find a vast collection of paintings and sculptures. Despite its traditional set up, it is quite different from the Palladio Museum as you can see multimedia installations, listen to sound effects and be captivated by particular visual effects. These later works are displayed alongside more traditional pieces, such as Palladio’s original drawings. Interestingly, the museum is housed in Palazzo Barbarano, the only work Palladio saw fully complete.
